St Michael, Flixton

As part of Bishop Nigel's ongoing Run the Race pilgrimage he visited St Michael's, Flixton on September 29 2006. Incumbent, Rev Sue Smith, explained: "Various groups came to meet Bishop Nigel in the church or church hall. Schools, uniformed groups, the young church groups, family praise groups and PCC and people from the local community all took the opportunity to have an informal chat with the Bishop."

Rev Smith added: "The community reception was a modest affair because our facilities are quite small which is why we staggered everything throughout the day. Various people from the local community came, with a particularly good turn out from our local Lions Club, with whom we are building good relations. They do quite a good table here and we had a lovely buffet. Bishop Nigel had a chance to chat with guests."

At the pilgrimage service which followed the Bishop handed the baton to Mrs Lyndsay Gagan. Dr Peter Barberis and Mrs Sally Wright spoke at the service about the history and mission past of the church, then the present, and finally the mission future of the church. Rev Smith said: "The service was lovely and in particular we were delighted by the number of people who went forward to receive anointing from Bishop Nigel. I was thoroughly pleased!"

On reflection Rev Smith said: "It was a hugely enjoyable event. We have reaped great results from it since then. Many people were happy to receive anointing from the Bishop, which is a little outside the experience of some. I feel this opened the doors for us to move our healing ministry, which was formerly
