The Church has a presence in every community. Our buildings are community resources used by tens of thousands of people every year.
We have:
346 churches
36,000 adults listed as members
700+ ministers
195 church schools
55,000 pupils
Economic impact
Faith-based social action generates regional economic activity valued at over £94 million
per annum (£20 million in Greater Manchester).
Faith communities' core budgets and charities with a faith foundation generate an even
greater contribution.
The massive network of faith buildings provides an essential resource for community and
business use.
45,000 faith volunteers contribute over 8 million hours of social and health care and
regeneration initiatives (equivalent to 4,815 FTE jobs).
Nationally, the Church manages 45% of the country's Grade I listed buildings.
Nationally, visitors to cathedrals generate £91 million and support 2,600 jobs
Bringing the community together
86% of the population visits a church every year. We are strongest where social need is
