Christ Church, Ainsworth

On 27 September 2006 the Bishop of Manchester, The Rt Revd Nigel Mccullough visited Christ Church, Ainsworth. Upon arrival he joined a small gathering of people for prayers followed by a visit to the local nursing home. There he offered blessings and prayers for the residents. He also visited the after school club.

There was a reception in the Church and Community Hall which was attended by the Mayor of Bury and his wife, local business people, the postmaster and his wife, library staff, uniformed groups, local councillors, play group members, after school club members, local residents, members of the Unitarian and Methodist church and many others.

At the pilgrimage service youngsters received the baton and took it up to the stand. There was a presentation by Hilda Lord called "Our Story, God's Story" which recalled the salvation history of Ainsworth. The message was about the past, the present and looking to the future. Those present offered their various roles in the church and community up to God.

The Bishop spoke about being renewed and offered to give individual blessings. Many people responded to his invitation and the atmosphere was very moving.

Revd David Griffiths, Vicar of Christ Church, Ainsworth said: "It was an excellent opportunity and has given us great impetus. It was an affirmation of what we're trying to do". Regarding the future of Christ Church, Ainsworth, he explained: "This event was one of a series of engaging with the community.
