St Paul's, Kersal Moor

On Saturday February 24 2007 Bishop Nigel visited St Paul's Church, Kersal Moor. Incumbent, Rev Lisa Battye, explained: "We met at 4pm and said prayers with St Paul's Church Management Committee with Bishop Nigel for a half hour, which was a lovely start to the event."

From there Bishop Nigel was taken to St Paul's Church of England School as part of his parish visit. Rev Lisa Batty said: "Bishop Nigel met with staff, parents and children and had a tour of the school. Quite a lot of people came to that, about 100 I think. It was very informal with nibbles and drinks for the children. There was also a puppet show for the children."

Following the parish visit Bishop Nigel returned to St Paul's church for the community reception. Among those attending were representatives of the local disabled ex-servicemen's facility called Broughton house, representatives from the funeral ministries, representatives from school, representatives from groups who use the church building, members of Prestwich Music Club, members of the Roman Catholic church and a prison chaplain.

Rev Lisa Battye said: "The church has a worship area and a social area and we held the community reception in the social area. Members of the church put on a very good meal. Bishop Nigel graciously went around with me saying hello to all our guests."

The pilgrimage service followed the community reception. Rev Lisa Battye said: "A lot of the people we had invited to the community reception stayed on for the church service. During the service Bishop Nigel invited people to come forward

for anointing and a blessing; many came forward.

"It was hard work." Rev Lisa Battye reflected, "It put us on the map for some people. It turned our eyes outwards. I'm glad we did it!"
