Bishop Nigel's second Run the Race pilgrimage visit of 2007 took him to the Ancient Parish Church of St Mary, Radcliffe for the evening of February 2.
Rev Gary Windon, vicar of St Andrew's explained the proceedings: "We started with prayers when Bishop Nigel first arrived at 4pm, then there was a community reception and then the pilgrimage service."
The community reception was held in Close Methodist Church hall which is on the other side of the road from St Andrews. Rev Windon said: "The Methodist Church have a hall nestled between the two parts of the school so it is very much a part of the community." The reception was held at 6pm.
The pilgrimage service followed at 7.30pm. Rev Windon added: "One of the highlights of the service for me was the Bishop getting the whole congregation to sing This Little Light of Mine with actions, it was a lot of fun seeing 80 and 90 year olds being silly!
The parish of St Mary Radcliffe is a mixed community with a lot of small industrial units, small shops and community organisations. Rev Windon explained: "We invited absolutely everybody we could think of in the community. We were delighted that the leader of the council came along because he's one of our governors at school. One of our other elected councillors, who has been closely involved with us getting a children's centre at the school, was there as well. There were also a number of different community representatives from different organisations."
