Ramsbottom & Edenfield

On Thursday October 5 and Friday October 6 2006 Bishop Nigel visited the team ministry of Ramsbottom and Edenfield as part of his ongoing Run the Race visits to every parish throughout the Diocese of Manchester.

Team Rector, Rev Canon Ian Rogerson explained: "We are a team ministry so the visit had to be spread over two days. Initially we had prayers in Edenfield Church and then Bishop Nigel made a very quick informal visit into school around 4.30pm."

Over the two days special prayers were said in all five churches by Bishop Nigel. Rev Canon Rogerson added: "We had two community receptions one of which was at St Paul's Church, Ramsbottom. The other one was at St Andrew's Church, Ramsbottom. The community reception was memorable in terms of the folk who came to it. Some of whom were quite distant from the church community. Guests were contacts of church members who have a particular role or responsibility within the immediate area and beyond."

The pilgrimage service was held at St Andrew's Church, Ramsbottom on Friday evening after the second Community Reception. There was a good response to Bishop Nigel's invitation to come forward for an anointing and a blessing.

At the beginning of the pilgrimage service Bishop Nigel handed the Commonwealth Games Baton to Rev Canon Ian Rogerson. At the end of the service Canon Slade upper sixth student, Charlotte Enfield, handed the baton back to Bishop Nigel. Those present were encouraged to run the race and look to Jesus.

On reflections Rev Canon Rogerson said: "It was an encouragement on the day. It was a stimulus to those that were involved. I would encourage others to make the most of the opportunity."
