The Bishop of Manchester, the Right Reverend Nigel McCulloch visited Pennington on Tuesday 12th June.
After beginning his pilgrimage visit with prayer, the bishop visited a local residential home, Pennington House on St Helen's Road and led a short communion service there for residents. He also visited a housebound member of congregation who is 90 this year and who, until recently falling and breaking her arm was a regular worshipper at Christ Church.
The bishop also visited Christ Church C of E Primary School and spoke with headteacher Diane Martindale, about the long-hoped-for redevelopment of the school.
Later on the Bishop met with local councillors and potential developers at a reception hosted by the church. Pennington's Vicar, The Revd Tony Butterworth said: "We are considering a new build for our primary school, and are in discussion with the council about creating a 'Youth Cafe' on the local park.
"It would be great to see both of these projects gain momentum as a result of the Bishop's Pilgrimage visit so that our discussions with the council over these important issues can move forward. We hope that the Bishop's visit might help us to see positive results."
At 7pm the Bishop led a short service for the church and community at Christ Church, which had as its theme 'Our story - God's story' reflecting one of the aims of the Bishop's two year pilgrimage around the Diocese of Manchester to meet community representatives
