On March 18 2007, which was also Mothering Sunday, Bishop Nigel visited All Saints, Stretford as part of his Run the Race Pilgrimage. The pilgrimage visit was customised to include some extra ingredients.
Priest in Charge Rev Robert Thewsey explained: "No parish visits took place as Bishop Nigel stayed at church and it was full with over 200 people. This included the Mayor of Trafford and her consort, Head Teachers, ex members of All Saints, who had moved out of the area, and our normal congregation and other local residents."
The pilgrimage service was a special service for All Saints, Streford as they were also celebrating their 50th Anniversary. All Saints was the first church to be rebuilt in the Manchester Diocese after World War 2. During the service Bishop Nigel also consecrated a garden of Rest which is the church's 50th anniversary legacy to the people of All Saints.
Rev Thewsey said: "Our service was quite different! It was a Sunday morning, Eucharist, Consecration, Mothering Sunday and the Pilgrimage Visit all rolled into one. Lots of things were done and we produced a lovely service booklet for the service which also included old photos of All Saints."
The reception took place in the Church Hall after the service. Everyone was invited to stay and the majority of the congregation and guests attended the reception. Light refreshments were served and Bishop Nigel was able to chat with those present.
