Christ Church, Harwood

The Bishop of Manchester visited Christ Church, Harwood on 23 March 2010 on his Run the Race pilgrimage.
He met members of the PCC for prayers at Christ Church before making visits to two schools in the area.
The first was the Bolton St Catherine's Academy which serves the Breightmet area. It is jointly sponsored by Manchester Diocese and Anne and David Crossland.
Specialising in maths, leadership, business and enterprise, the Academy opened in 2009. Bishop Nigel met the headteacher, vice principals and pupils. He was treated to a powerful drama performed by GCSE students.
The bishop then visited Harwood Meadows primary school situated behind Christ Church.
Members of an art group that meet in the school joined staff from Harwood Meadows and the Academy at the community reception in the school hall.
"The Pilgrimage Service was an excellent event and the congregation were thrilled with it", said vicar, Wendy Oliver.
PCC vice chair, Rod Ashworth, talked about the history of the church. Young mother, Jackie Henshaw, talked enthusiastically about the future of the church and its new, younger members. Jackie grew up in the church and is passing the faith on to her own children.
Christ Church is very focused on attracting young families and children.
