The Bishop visited the Five Saints Team over two days in October 2009. St. Michael's Church (which incorporates St. Bartholomew) became the starting point for Bishop Nigel's first leg of his Pilgrimage to The Five Saints Team in New Bury with Great Lever. Opening prayers saw great enthusiasm from those gathered to welcome the Pilgrimage Team.. From there, bolstered by the uplifting prayers, Bishop Nigel moved to Wilfrid Geere House care home and the associated shops along Highfield Road., stopping for a swift pint at the Flying Shuttle! The Pilgrimage visit concluded at St. Catherine's Church, with an inspiring service and an opportunity for the Bishop to practice his line dancing. The second day of the visit took in St. James' Primary CE School with an opportunity to see the work done in the parish from a school wanting to underpin its work with a sound foundation. From there the Pilgrimage moved to the Orchards Care Home where the community were delighted to see the 'young Bishop' and the spread provided was received with grateful surprise! The visit ended with the community reception at St. George's Church and a delightful service with the younger members of the Church running up and down the aisle with the baton, proving the capacity for the next generation to carry on the Five Saints vision of Faith, Hope and Love.
