Kirklees Valley
St James Woolfold
All Saints Elton

The Bishop of Manchester's Pilgrimage to Kirklees Valley had to be postponed by a few months until the Christmas snow had melted.

The visit had been planned during December 2008, but ended up being rearranged for the following summer on June 23, 2009.

The churches of All Saints', Elton, St. James, Woolfold, and Kirklees Valley joined at St. James' for prayers and to see the newly-refurbished church. Revd. Stuart Millington, Bury Area Dean at the time, then took Bishop Nigel in to see some groups who use the Parish Centre for their meetings.

As the pilgrimage was a morning event, lunch was provided by the community at St. James' before the team moved to Killelea House; a residential rehabilitation home where the Bishop enjoyed a brew with the residents.

From there, a reception was held in the Parish Centre with the Mayor and Mayoress, local groups, community police, and local residents for a chance to meet the Bishop.

At the service in the new church building (the first in the Diocese since the 1950's!). thanksgiving and prayers were given for the future during the Bishop's address. Presentations were also made by members of the parish and the young people of the parish carried in the baton for the Bishop.

Those who reflected on the event have remembered it as 'very

'We all found Bishop Nigel to be an inspiring speaker and felt uplifted by the whole experience. It was truly amazing how fresh and special the visit was.'
