St Chad, Rochdale
& St Mary in the Baum

The Bishop brought the Run the Race baton to St. Chad's and St. Mary in the Baum ending with something different: a Eucharistic Service of Dedication for the church of St. Mary's.

Before that, his tour took in the sights of the Rochdale Observer and its newsroom. Vicar David Foss and St Chad's communications editor
Norman Frisby took him to meet the paper's then editor, Claire Mooney and her staff  to watch them put together the newspaper's weekend edition. With Bishop Nigel  having a sneak preview of the weekly Faith News page before it went to the printers.

From there, the Bishop went to the town-centre Falinge flats and met Pakistani Christians, Ajmal, Ferida and their family, who worship together at St Mary's.

The tour also called at the Toad Lane Co-operative Museum to remember that Rochdale was the birthplace of the modern Co-operative movement.  Across the road from there, he planted a cherry tree on behalf of the mother's union as a memorial to all those involved, past and present.

The final service was warmly welcomed and celebrated not only 1,000 years of worship on Sparrow Hill, but the new age of St. Mary's as Rochdale take up the challenge of running the race of Faith, Hope and Love.
