St Thomas Kirkholt

The bishop visited St Thomas' Kirkholt, Rochdale on Tuesday May 26, during the Spring Bank Holiday half term.
To coincide with the Bishop`s pilgrimage the police had organized a community festival and the Revd. Sue Morgan, priest-in-charge, had offered the church and hall as the venue. She said "Hosting the event worked admirably as it chimed in so well with the objectives of the Bishop`s pilgrimage. It was a fun day to which all the people of the estate were invited."
Police officers and community support officers were present along with representatives from social services, the local housing office and the children`s centre, and health visitors. Also represented was Vision for Kirkholt, the umbrella partnership for regeneration in the locality.
Grants had been secured with the help of the drop-in centre and the police.
The event included a variety of activities for all ages, including demonstrations of healthy cooking and face painting for children. The event attracted a good number of people from the neighbourhood.
After touring the festival and the stalls and meeting workers and volunteers, Bishop Nigel was taken by the Revd. Sue Morgan to the needle exchange on the Strand where he met staff and learned more about various aspects of their work related to drug dependency.
A community reception in the church hall followed and the day concluded with a Pilgrimage Service of Celebration in the church, led by Bishop Nigel. The Revd Sue Morgan commented on how pleased she
