The Bishop of Manchester visited the Broughton Team for the second time on pilgrimage to St Clement with St Matthias, Lower Broughton on Friday 24th April 2009.
The bishop's afternoon began, as usual, with prayers. At 5 o'clock, the Team Rector, the Revd. Henry Martin, Bishop Nigel and Reader at St Clement's, Fred Jones were joined by a large number of parishioners, including many from local residential care homes, for a 'tea service'; a regular, informal 'café-style' act of worship, which includes tea and refreshments.
Team Rector, Henry Martin explains: "Fred is the man behind the Tea Service, and he has seen it grow and develop steadily."
At 6pm, the bishop was taken to visit Albert's - a community initiative based in a recently refurbished youth centre in Albert Park. The bishop met volunteers and some of the parents and children who benefit from the initiative saw and local comm. Dev workers - and other local ministers / community leaders
The bishop returned to St Clements, where he was joined by a number of local groups and community representatives, including the brownies and guide group, for the pilgrimage service at 7 o'clock. Two members of St Clement's told the story of the small but friendly church, and the bishop recommissioned the congregation, anointing them with oil, before receiving his pilgrimage baton once again.
