St Stephen and
All Martyrs, Lever Bridge

Bishop Nigel's pilgrimage to Lever Bridge on March 24, 2009 began with prayers in St. Stephen and All Martyrs Church. From there, Revd. Sue Edwards headed to procession to the after school club FABBS at St. Stephen and All Martyrs CE primary school.

Joining in the fun and games, Bishop Nigel was able to witness the motivating and positive work put into a safe and welcoming environment for local children.

From there, the pilgrimage continued to the home of magazine editor John Connor, who was able to show Bishop Nigel around his office-cellar where the hard work that goes into producing the magazine takes place. Bishop Nigel was also enthused to see John's extra work as a DJ.

The procession moved back to the school for a reception where the gathered community welcomed Bishop Nigel with one of the church's legendary feasts!

Among those there were the Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton, the local Residents Association, and the Brownies and Beavers groups.

It was remarked on how inspiring it was to see every member of the congregation come forward for a blessing and to experience not just the celebration of the service but also its contemplative side.

The presentation of the parish's story, in the form of a book, was particularly remembered as being the first time it has been presented that way, read out from amidst the congregation and then handed to the Bishop.

As a result, there was a great sense of enjoyment from the day and of significant lasting value were the ways in which links were built to the school, in a way that will hopefully grow and flourish.
