Christ Church, Healey

Bishop Nigel started his Pilgrimage to Christ Church, Healey with prayers in an unusual venue: a local County Primary school!

The children gathered made him feel warmly welcome and afterwards showed him round the school on a guided tour by the schools junior Council. This is a group made up of Yr. 6 pupils who act as mentors and give reflection to from the children's viewpoint.

Following on from there, the tour went to visit parishioner Dorothy Coop at her home. Dorothy has been a worshipper in the parish for 79 years and regaled Bishop Nigel with stories over their break of coffee and biscuits.

With some time to spare before the community reception at Christ Church, before the final service of blessing, Bishop Nigel was invited to the local Birches Hotel for a quiet drink. He even managed to get behind the bar and pull a pint

Finally, the Pilgrimage Team moved to the church and was art of a service which received tremendous response from those gathered. Local community members including resident hostelry folk gathered together and it was roundly remembered as a beautiful service where there were many present and involved who were not normally church attendees.

For those who it may have been their first time at Christ Church, there were comments of how enjoyable it was to be involved, while those who are more regular found the service of prayers and blessings 'reinforced their faith and service' as they looked to running the race of Faith, Hope and Love into the future.
