St Gabriel, Prestwich

The Bishop's pilgrimage reached St Gabriel's Prestwich including meeting an unexpected celebrity; Santa Claus!

The next leg of the Bishop of Manchester's Diocesan pilgrimage began with the familiarity of the Pilgrimage Office at St Gabriel's Church on 18th December 2008.  However it took an unexpected turn as they arrived at Sedgley Park School where Bishop Nigel was greeted not only by the Head Teacher, but also Santa Claus.

The Bishop arrived at school in the midst of their Christmas celebrations and was able to meet classes who were making Christmas Cards and visit children having Christmas Dinner in the school dining hall.  It was not long until Bishop Nigel was able to tuck into his own Christmas Dinner as he visited Sedgley Children's Centre, the local Sure Start scheme, for Christmas Lunch.

After lunch, the bishop's hectic schedule brought him back to the school library to meet the school councillors for a chat and a tour of the school, before he headed to the hall to sample the Carol Concert.

Later in the day, the bishop was able to meet with other faith groups in Prestwich.  He first meet with Rabbi Chazan at Holy Law Synagogue and then Paul Harris, the editor of the Manchester edition of the regional Jewish newspaper the Jewish Telegraph.  He then went on to visit the Prestwich Mosque, Masjid Bilal where he was met by community leader, Anwar Nayeer.

The last stop before the community reception at Sedgley Children's Centre was to the local vet's, the Park Veterinary Surgery.

The Bishop then returned to Saint
