Christ Church, Walshaw

Traffic was the culprit when Bishop Nigel's Pilgrimage arrived late to Christ Church, Walshaw. Being stuck in the commuter rush meant evening prayers began a little later than usual but the move on to Christ Church School was still well-received.

Bishop Nigel was able to see the work of the Christ Church School after-school club in full flow and even managed a game of table football and some Christmas card making with the children.

From the school, the Pilgrimage progressed to Walshaw Hall, the local home for elderly care, where the residents were enjoying a spot of tea. Events Manager, Maria, was able to introduce Bishop Nigel to the residents who were enthusiastic in their reception.

The next stage of the Pilgrimage visited parishioner Tina Wilde in her parent's home. Having the privilege of offering prayers and a blessing for Tina during her illness was a particularly humbling encounter for Bishop Nigel and it is hoped that her memory may be honoured in these pages.

The reception back at the church welcomed visitors from the local community including the local police community support officers, managers of the local businesses and the PCT. And the local stonemason, who has recently been working on the church, was also able to attend.

The service of prayer and blessing was well-received, with a multimedia presentation on the church's life and history, and the school choir in full voice.

However, the service will probably be best remembered for an unfortunate mishap where the Commonwealth Games baton failed to light for the first few minutes of the service!

Thankfully, however, the situation was resolved and order restored.
