This site gives you details of a three year mission by taken by the Bishop of Manchester . During the mission the Bishop will visit every one of the parishes in his Diocese.

The Bishop of Manchester will have completed over 175 mission visits  by the end of 2008. With up to four visits a week, this is the place to find details of the visits. Go here for an alphabetical list of visits made so far or use the search button to find your parish.

Canon Roger writes:

The Bishop has visited over 30 churches so far in 2009.

Welcoming the Bishop recently the Reader at one church summed things up: "well done so far: just keep going" - very appropriate because encouragement to the churches is a key theme of the pilgrimage.

At Eastlands the pilgrimage celebration was the closing service for the church of the Resurrection which is to be demolished to make way for the new Academy. But the last word was the blessing of the site for the new church.

Often the Bishop simply dips into the rhythms of parish life - milking time on the farm, meeting care workers, emergency services, chatting to the sick or elderly, enjoying a game at an after school club,.. having a cup of tea with user groups at the community centre.

Each time the bishop learns more about the varied life of the diocese and its parishes and, constantly encouraged by the welcome he receives and the interest in what the church can offer, he is able to encourage churches to witness in their situation with growing faith, hope and love.

The Commonwealth Games Baton was designed and built by IDEO www.ideo.com . The Diocese is grateful for the loan of the Baton for the duration of the pilgrimage. Click here for details of the baton.
